Cinque Terre sights and hiking tours

Cinque Terre hiking
Cinque Terre hiking trails –
panorama of Manarola

We will show you the most beautiful Cinque Terre hiking trails which are part of the most popular attractions in Cinque Terre National Park.

The blue trail "sentiero azzurro" connects the five villages along the spectacular coast.

In addition there is a red trail "sentiero rosso" and numerous footpaths to the Sanctuary’s on the hills of the Apennines.

Our favorite is the Cinque Terre hiking trail Monterosso - Vernazza which offers spectacular panoramic views.

There are many things to do in Cinque Terre, but you should make at least one of the popular hiking tours from one to another village.

Another attraction is the Cinque Terre lovers walk called “via dell amore”. It is the shortest, flattest and therefore easiest trail in the Cinque Terre National Park.

Here you will find our Cinque Terre recommendations and the most beautiful hiking trails.

Furthermore we will show you where to get a Cinque Terre hiking map for free: see Cinque Terre hiking trails

Attractions: Cinque Terre national park

The five medieval villages Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore are part of the Cinque Terre National Park.

The National Park is under the protection of UNESCO and offers a variety of attractions.

It is the only National Park, which was created to protect a man-made environment.

In the Parco Nazionale delle Cinque Terre you can find a huge number of hiking trails connecting the five villages.

During hiking you can see how the inhabitants of the Cinque Terre have built in manual work thousands of meters of dry stone walls to create terraces in the steep hills to cultivate wine and olives.

Here you will find our personal recommendations for what to do in Cinque Terre and the most beautiful Cinque Terre sights in the National park Cinque Terre

Cinque Terre Hotels

Hotel Cinque Terre
Cinque Terre Hotel
Porto Roca Monterosso

In our opinion one of the most beautiful hotels in the Cinque Terre is the Porto Roca Monterosso which is located directly on the coast and offers a wonderful panoramic terrace overlooking the sea.

From the hotel you can reach Monterosso beach by a short walk.

In front of the Hotel Porto Roca Monterosso passes the blue hiking trail Monterosso Vernazza.

Thus, this hotel is the perfect starting point for a Cinque Terre hiking tour.

How to arrive: Cinque Terre train

Cinque Terre trains -
go by train to Cinque Terre

The Cinque Terre train is the most easy way to move in the national park, which connects the five villages.

We cannot recommend to come by car because there are only a few twisting roads and very limited parking areas in the national park.

To explore the attractions of the Cinque Terre it is recommended to use the train, ferry boat or one of the Cinque Terre hiking trails.

Each village has a small train station, from where by train you can reach within a few minutes all the other villages of the Cinque Terre.

We'll tell you practical advices for visiting the Cinque Terre

Here you find the Cinque Terre train schedule and where you can buy the Cinque Terre train pass: see chapter Train Cinque Terre

Cinque Terre beaches

Cinque Terre beaches
Cinque Terre beach Monterosso

If you are looking for a beach in the Cinque Terre we can show you which villages are suitable for a beach holiday.

Because of the steep and rocky coast most of the Cinque Terre beaches are very small - but in Levanto and Monterosso al Mare you can find beautiful beaches.

Especially Monterosso offers a sandy beach which is also relatively big compared with the other Cinque Terre beaches.

In the category beaches in Liguria you can find more recommendations for the best beaches of Liguria.

How come to the Cinque Terre

All five villages of the Cinque Terre are difficult to reach by car via the straight serpentine roads.

Parking in the Cinque Terre is also difficult and most streets of the villages are closed to the traffic.
